Before there was shorty's
A sweet journey
Pastry School 2003
After getting a taste of the baking industry working in Apple Hill at Boa Vista at 16 and a local bakery until 2003 when Morgan decided to make baking her career. She attended American River College and Graystone in Saint Helena. She then went on to work for various restaurants and bakeries even opening Red Hawk Casino as the Assistant Pastry Chef!
Opened first retail store in El Dorado 2010
March of 2010 Morgan opened Sugar Lillie Bakery in downtown El Dorado. A cute little bakery tucked behind a bookstore. Making cakes, cookies, scones and breads. Until 2014 when she sold the location to open a production facility in Shingle Springs making her famous coconut macaroons for Whole Foods and other grocery Stores across California.
Doughnuts? 2018
In 2018 Morgan decided that mass producing cookies for grocery stores wasn't fulfilling her creativity and she wanted to create something fun and exciting. Shorty's was born! The idea for building a donut truck came about and she tasked her talented husband to build the cutest donut truck! Shorty's was an instant success with creative scratch made donuts served out of a little blue Chevy P10 truck. Through 2020 the business grew and out grew the little truck. The opportunity to move to a retail location in Apple Hill came up and we enjoyed a few years of running the bakery in Apple Hill but alas it was time for Shorty's to find a permanent home so that Morgan could create again and make new fabulous treats and chocolates for you!
Shorty's Gelato & Bakery 2023
Opened on June 10th 2023 our flagship store was opened at 1216 Broadway in Placerville, Ca filling a need for a sweet spot to indulge in handmade chocolates, desserts, cookies, yummy hot chocolates and gelato! Stop by and say hi. You will likely find Morgan, her mom Linda and daughter Lillie baking up something sweet for you to enjoy!

OUR DOUGHNUT TRUCK IS A 1978 CHEVY P10 AFFECTIONATLY NAMED "SHORTY" CUSTOM BUILT BY MORGAN'S HUSBAND CHRIS WHO OWNS A METAL FABRICATION SHOP. CHRIS HAS CUSTOM BUILT THIS TRUCK FOR MORGAN MAKING IT THE COOLEST DOUGHNUT TRUCK YOU WILL SEE ON THE ROAD. CHRIS HAS PUT THOUSANDS OF HOURS AND CARE INTO ALL OF THE DETAILS THAT MAKE "SHORTY" STAND OUT. "SHORTY' IS EQUIPET WITH ALL THE AMMENITIES TO SERVE YOU YUMMY DOUGHNUTS AND BEVERAGES. CHECK OUT ALL THE LITTLE DETAILS THAT MAKE THIS TRUCK COOL THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE IT AND SAY HI!
